At this point I was 4 blocks from home. When I got back in the car I got a Transmission Fault (limited gear message). I continued to drive almost home. The vehicle started to blind, the dash went out and the entire vehicle shut down as I turned on my block. I killed it. I had to have it towed to my house. Did I **** it.
First of all, it's not a Range Rover, it's an LR3.unless you're in the wrong forum. If it's a Range Rover and you are in the wrong forum, nobody ever said it's rock solid. If it's an LR3 and you "bought it on the cheap" then you should expect deferred maintenance and issues that the previous owner(s) didn't want to fix.
Based on the seven-passenger LR3's body-on-frame structure, the Range Rover Sport came as the HSE model with a 300-horsepower, 4.4-liter V8, and in Supercharged trim with a 390-horsepower, 4.2-liter V8. Both engines were sourced from Jaguar, which was owned by Land Rover's parent company, Ford.
diesel engine have a set torque range and under or over that range produces nothing in the terms of power and gear changing should be best kept to that range. If the transmission will not change gears at around 2500 rpms then have the fault codes read as there may be a problem electronically. Read full answer.
Also, if you live in a snow / salt road environment, there is a known issue with the shift lever on the transmission getting out of whack and / or seizing. This would be prudent to change out. If that turns out to be the problem these are the part numbers; LR012704 - Lever. WYH000040 - Nut - flanged.
All gear selections, whether the car is cold or up to temperature are smooth and without any hesitation, whether in drive mode, sport mode or command shift mode and I have not had any fault messages displayed of any kind. The Landy is a 4.0 V6 2005 Disco 3 and has just clocked 140,000km. Transmission fluids where done on 138,000km.
Well all was good until I had to head away for work to Batemans Bay. On the freeway on cruise control doing 110kph going up hills it did not drop down to 5th, it would labour and then the dreaded "F" Transmission fault limited gears available - 3rd only. I stopped and restarted probably 5 times to reset the fault.
