Yes 100%, it’s the best book series I’ve ever read, I would definitely recommend it. Just keep in mind, it isn’t finished and may never have an ending. The order is: A Game of Thrones A Clash of Kings A Storm of Sword A Feast for Crows A Dance with Dragons
Yeah. I assume the ending is roughly how GRRM told D&D it would go, but a big part of why GRRM doesn't want to write more ASOIAF is he doesn't know how to get to that ending. So D&D decided they had to figure out their own path to that ending, rather than just having the show end differently than the books 01, and then they did it badly. The Game of Thrones RPG gave hard numbers for the troop strengths of the Great Houses. Those numbers are not canonical, but GRRM did look them over without finding anything about them that made him go "whoa that is completely wrong House X is much stronger/weaker than that" so I think they are pretty decent for a rough idea of comparisons. Honestly the motivation to watch it is simply ”does this new fantasy show seem interesting to me”. Like any other show really.
